How to register a death
There is no obligation for the death of British nationals abroad to be recorded in this way. However there are the advantages that a British form of death certificate is then available and that a record of the death is afterwards held at the General Register Office in the United Kingdom.
If you wish to apply for the registration, please complete and submit the application form. Before making the registration, we must be satisfied as to the national status of the deceased. Documentary evidence of this which we will need to see and which should accompany the application is:
- The death certificate issued by the local authorities:The Vital Statistics Unit, 25 Gabourel Lane, Belize City, Tel: + (501) 223 7405, Email: vitalstatsbz@yahoo.com; and
- Evidence of the deceased's claim to British nationality, eg. full birth certificate OR British passport OR certificate of naturalisation or of registration as a British national.
- Bz$318.50 (£98) for making an entry in our Book of Deaths
- Bz$204.75 (£63) for a certified copy of the entry
