Postgraduate Scholarships

Chevening Scholarship 25th Anniversary 2009

The Chevening Programme started in 1983 as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Scholarships and Awards Scheme.  In 1994 the programme was renamed "Chevening" after the name of the Foreign Secretary's official residence.  The Chevening Scholarship scheme aims to bring future leaders, opinion formers and decision makers to the United Kingdom for a period of postgraduate study at a formative stage of their careers.

Chevening Scholarship

Yearly the British Chevening Scholarship offers the opportunity for postgraduate study in the UK to young Belizeans of proven academic ability, who have the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion-formers in Belize.

The scholarship covers all the costs of studying at postgraduate (Masters Degree) level in the UK at a British university.

Application forms are available from: http://www.chevening.com/how-to-apply/belize

Further information can be found on http://www.chevening.com or email: jane.beard@fco.gov.uk.

Commonwealth Scholarships

Each year the British Government makes around 500 awards to applicants from Commonwealth Countries as its contribution to the Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships Plan. These awards can cover doctoral studies, masters degrees and academic or short term professional fellowships.

There are also opportunities for distance learning courses and split-site schemes in which a part of a doctoral degree is carried out in the United Kingdom.

All awards are made strictly on the basis of academic merit. There are no prescribed subjects, however applicants from developing Commonwealth countries must make a strong case for the development impact of their proposed course of study.

Further details of the awards and application procedures for citizens of Belize can be found on the CSFP Website or by contacting: Mrs Myrtle Palacio, Director, Office of Governance, New Administration Building, Belmopan, Belize.  Tel: (+501) 822 2204/2205 Fax (+501) 822 0927 Email: director@osc.gov.bz
